Rick O'Dell

For as long as the Smooth Jazz format has been on the air in Chicago, Rick O’Dell has been at the center of it.  He produced and hosted the first Smooth Jazz show on Chicago radio, “The Sunday Lite Brunch,” which aired on WCLR 102-FM from 1987 to 1989.  Then, from 1990 through 2009, he hosted the highly rated midday show and the “Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch” on WNUA 95.5.  He also served as Music Director and Program Director of the station during its later years.  When WNUA dropped Smooth Jazz in favor of Spanish language programming in 2009, Rick moved over to Chicago-based as Operations Manager of their Smooth Jazz channels.  Then, from 2010 to 2012, he was midday host and Operations Manager of Smooth Jazz-formatted WLFM-LP 87.7.

On April 30, 2012, WLFM switched to alternative rock, leaving over half a million Chicago listeners without a Smooth Jazz station for the first time in 25 years.  Driven by the overwhelming response he received from listeners, Rick developed with a personal pledge never to change formats at his new digital station.

“ will represent the best of WNUA and WLFM while embracing the advantages of broadcasting on the internet.”  That, according to Rick, is the mission of the new station.
